9391. TIRED UNDER EVERYTHING

TIRED UNDER EVERYTHING
With his cards in hand the man started telling me
what was 'out there,' as he put it. 'That's New York
City, son, 25 miles away!' I was probably older or
the same age as he was, but what's it matter? Old
as he was, grits in the brain. I said I knew that,
even had been there. 'Ha. You're messing with
me now. This here memorial's for the people
here in town we'd lost in 9-11.' I knew that
too, but didn't want to break his other heart.
What to do, oh what to do?
