12,189. WAY PAST SEMANTICS

WAY PAST SEMANTICS
If you go too far past the canyon
the river turns to glacial mud and
then hot lava. It's the original 'River
of No Return'  -  what the natives
called 'Re Rondo Capo Tanta'  -
which in their language meant
more like 'Too late for turning
back now.' In a colloquial sense..
-
Nature people, and natives, and all
that  -  I always enjoyed their myths.
Phoenix-bird stories of rebirth after
death, men who shed their skins to
bring redemption to others; the
fire-bird rising from a heap in the
ashes to retake the world for humans
again. Why any of this would ever
happen, I never knew.
-
Nor did I know where these tales
ever came from. Origination itself.
It's a powerful myth  -  the world
on the back of a tortoise; winged
chariots dragging the Sun across
the same tired sky, day after day.
Ad infnitum, and what is Time
anyway? The one thing I ended
up sure of  -  if you're wondering  -
was the certainty that every  question,
of whatever sort,  originates five more
questions, needing answers too.
-
Now that's infinity to me!
