10,761. VERY MUCH MARGINAL MAN

VERY MUCH MARGINAL MAN
I am outside some department store run
by Russians. Called Naminskaya, even
though no one calls it that. Instead they
most say Namin's. Even in Kiev. There's
one in Moscow too. But taken now by
insiders, who steal the money made. Like
in America, all the prosperous, they can do
that and have no trouble. Here, the man
who said no more just offered me a thin
Bulgarian cigarette. Not really wanting
it, I took it, but ended up givng him two
Marlboros back. 'Amerikanski' I said.
He beamed and nodded, quite happy.
I watched  -  a little blubber, a hairy
neck, or up to his larynx anyway.
Large-lobed ears too. Made me think,
immediately, snoop, spy, listener.
But no more than that, no more.
