SHADES OF
NEVER-ENDING
TORMENT
The King of the Gypsies, the Masters
of the Tribe : Only names. They are
buried here, buried there. Like Joey
Ramone, (nee Jeffrey Hyman) in
the same cemetery as William Carlos
Williams. Just up the hill from a
little bluff, with a view of the NY
skyline just away. Not a monumental
place, nowhere you'd want to stay.
There's a man driving slowly, in a
little blue car; having just a tended a
grave, he was leaving. Flowers, and a
tidy-up moment. What do you do with
graves; I don't know. Flowers, and a
trinket, or a statuette. I've seen worse -
toy cars, beer cans, a bottle of wine.
He sees me, but we don't acknowledge.
What else can you do, in a place of
the dead. Bring along a dear friend,
as I did? Someone to notice? Hoping
we can all live forever?
