10,495. COMING HOME, EAST

COMING HOME, EAST
The pounding of the road is
what keeps steady  - the cracks
and the seams and the bumps.
Crawling forth sublimitude, go
east from the Alleghenies. It's a
mix that's heady. Sundown to
apple orchard to morning and
sundown once more.
-
Having passed the plank at some
little town falls, where maybe
Marshall Ken Keating dined or
one Roger Montauk entertained
Chief Maukatunk before stealing
his lands. Huckleberry. Corn
Sweet potatoes. Yams.
-
All these holy things together make
one brawny American church. And.
You can read the placards  -  the
Second Great Awakening came
through here. Why? The people
crossing the bridge here now are
Lenten diners to the K of C
Friday Fish Fry.
