CHARLEMAGNE JUST LEFT
FOR THE COAST
I said 'Charley, why? The coast is right there.' He said
'Not that one; I'm after the other.' How did he even
know there were two? I wondered.

A lot of things make we woozy. This Holy Roman
Emperor stuff, for sure. What connection could there
have been between such religion and a God?

Strange days, indeed. Claiming the flatlands of
France in the name of Christ the King. Calling
out some Florida landing for a part of the Fountain
of Youth? How stupid could that have been? And
who were all these crazy men anyway? The way
I see it, either 'miscreants' again, or the hard-core
unemployed (which you never hear of anymore,
even though it used to be quite a large category
of men by itself, never spoken of now).
