I'VE HEARD CATCALLS
It seems, in chess, there's a name for
every category of strategy: The Punjab
Thrust, for instance, is when you open
with all your pawns in play. Sacrifice
the Bishops is an obvious allusion to
the French Revolution, I always thought.
From Robespierre to Danton, that the
broad space between players went for
naught when the guillotine arrives.
Sacrifice the Royals; well, that's an
endgame maneuver for Check-Mate
for sure. Take the King and Queen,
in whichever order you wish? The
Sans-Culottes rabble will be
screaming from the sidelines,
whatever it is you do.
