AUSPICIOUS BEGNNINGS TO ORDINATE ENDS
I found an inscription on a stone across the oasis:
'Never try to cross this damned desert unless you
have plenty of water and your camel's in a good
mood.' In old Egyptian writing? Which someone
had nicely translated and left paired on the stone
with the original script? It had to be a joke, and that
joke was on me? Next I fully expected a carwash
at Desert Stone Three, as marked on the map.

Everything tends to compete: Happiness, with both
Sadness and Death. Your own parents with that kid's
parents down the street. Your vacation to Perth Amboy
to theirs in Mexico City and Guatemala. A person can
only do so much when held as a captive of fate.
