16,063. TIED TO THIS WAGON

TIED TO THIS WAGON
They say there's a contagion of
small things rattling through
the land. Kids and children,
wanting everything they see.
Leaving the airport behind,
even the taxi-cabs and Ubers
hesitate to go on. Traffic blurs
the sight like snow.
-
I watch the mothers  -  not sure
of themselves now, one or two
kids behind, in tow, they wonder
if they still have looks; worry
makes the heart grow slow. I
notice too how the fathers no
longer much look at the mothers;
their eyes are elsewhere scanning
for the feast.
-
I think motivation is the hardest
thing to keep. Faithfulness and
good cheer? They're easier qualities
now then we let on.
