OVER TIME
Over time we fell for so much
rubbish; we were grown up late,
too late to find out. Why so many
died smoking? I don't know but
it was always pushed. The drinks
in cavernous movies only sloshed
around the dead people's brains.
Men sent to war were addled to
death, and it got so good they
sent women then too. As if no
one had ever found the stop,
nothing was ever stopped.

It all went on and on: banks and
household freezers, meats filled
with hormones and drugs, the
chemical forests of pills and new
elixirs, the profits that maintained
the veins of the deaf, dumb, and
blind. Over time? And how did
we get so far?
