HARI-KARI
When Yukio Mishima did it, I thought
it was cool - a ritual disembowelment
of self by saber to protest the changing
conditions. My goodness, not that's a
commitment!
-
It was late 1970, and I wasn't sure
of words - we called it one thing in
America, and the Japanese had other
words for it. No matter; in front of
his followers he gave it all up, even
as it all went wrong.
-
With friends like that, who needs
enemies? With an enemy of one's
self, who needs friends?
