BARRELHOUSE ECHOES
Elephants in broad-back shoes!
Monkeys taunting each other
along braided ropes and vines!
Things never seen before in
Graner Gardens. It was as if
a circus was in town. Then,
of course, there was young
Millie Mober, who said she's
lived here all her life, and had
'never seen the likes of this
before! What a time of living!'

I had to laugh. I thought to
myself how it must have been
like this when the first movies
came to town. Did they open
theatres for the townsfolk with
no explanations at all? Someone
had to know what was about
to unfold.

Life is funny like that - progress
roars us down and we cannot do
a thing about it. Others use the
name of good to propagate their
ways and ideas. They get all the
gain and glory, and we get left
with the mess.
