10,154. THE FIERY CATS FROM GEORGIA

THE FIERY CATS
FROM GEORGIA
Not knowing anything at all : 1956 Dodge
sitting in the weeds, and that old Desoto
Fireflite I liked even better. I used to love
that word, and where'd they get it?
-
A fire-flite is the lightning bug, afloat
in the evening glimmer. A sound both
descriptive, and naming.
-
There's a cotton field nearby, along the
inside edge of what passes here for heavy
traffic  - a few farm guys in overalls, now
hitching their pants to the wrangling post
they use as a belt. Getting ready to work
in this sweltering heat. Do they swelt?
