10,049. INSUBSTANTIAL AGGRAVATION

INSUBSTANTIAL
AGGRAVATION
In such a way as this, bring it home :
put the shoulder to the wheel, and be
sure the wheel connects to the axle.
That's how progress happens; it's not
a magic trick. More substance than
anything else. Like finding an Einstein
quantum error in some pile of old math :
all almost without meaning.
-
By the end of this brook there are two
green chairs, out in every weather. In the
heat of Summer, on them you will bake.
A really direct sunlight pounds. By late
November, when the other winds blow and
words like snow are piled, in turn you'd
better have a coat. The damp cold hurts.
-
The house near to this, it's from 1831;
it stared out as a cabin, then enlarged to
hold a farm family, and more  -  rear
quarters too, for a hired hand. Sheds
and a corn crib. The barn had crumbled,
and the foolish people from the County
Historic Commission, having turned this
now into a people-friendly site, took the
remnants away and even installed some
ramps. Two graves are gone now too  -
they used to be way out back, where
the bend would meet the river. Ah!
Such historic accuracy,
so hard to find.
