MY NEW FILM
They are test-driving cars alongside the curve
of the river - where the two-lane road goes fast
and open. Ad-men, I think, doing photos and such.
Cars run in fashion like everything else, and these days,
anyway, speed's not the battle. The Cadillac runs like
a hood-monster's drug-tank Escalade, the Range Rover
seems made for a Queen - the dainty, lush squish of
a big-bottomed seeker of comfort; mothers, kids, all
kinds of shopping. This Audi Q5 just makes no sense
at all. To me it's a loafer squeezed in the boot of the
military police. But, I stand here and watch as they turn.
-
Whatever nation-state stands here too, whatever people
we've become, I guess we've decided to divide it by
'cars' - some new form of Pi which does not - most
definitely - lead to piety, or humility. Like that old oil
company which used to call itself 'Humble Oil Co.', then
Esso, than Exxon. What the hell, who cares, go on.
