JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING
Just about everything that can be
is tainted. Doorways and fixtures,
lines of cars, roads and tolls, curbs
and lights. Mothers and fathers,
daughters and sons. Sun and moon,
storms, fire, oceans, and tides.
-
Stores selling bagels and lox and
stores selling things in large boxes;
Rope ladders and strings of lights.
Fish-soups and oysters and chicken
bites. Snow shovels and door mats,
air-pumps, and generators too. The
creches outside the churches, the live
scenes with live animals, the frozen
faces of the dead who stare, the ones
who watch, the ones not here.
