TALK RIGHT
I never know what people mean.
I've heard it said that talk is cheap,
and maybe so it is, but what is meant
by designations that seem important
to me? Like the other day some guy
says 'I was almost killed there on a
motorcycle.' Is that a psycho-babble?
How does one get 'almost killed' if
you weren't mangled, broken, bloody
and near that death you so announce?
Or did he perhaps just mean that all
was in place, the setting was there, for
him to have been killed should it have
gone wrong? There's a quite a real
difference to those two stories.
-
When writing of things, you'd need
to be far more precise - though not
directly so. That's the poetic key -
how a skilled pen can elucidate the
shooting scene but not produce the
weapon. Leaving faint wisps of
mystery yet in the smoky air.
