WHILE I IDLE
The chickadee and the slime-backed
swallow can still be around for next
Spring, though I think they tire too
easily to just live in bare willows. Too
much to come and it's all yet before us.

What shall we see as we walk to this
Winterfest : ice carvings again, and
those girls in thick coats, the big men
with their shovels and brooms cleaning
the surface for the players on skates.

What does an ice-fisherman fish for if he
doesn't get ice? Put warm weather on the
hook, my fellow, and see what it brings.
