6680. METALWORK

METALWORK
Tin can be hammered to shape, and decorated
too  -  although that part of it is really at all a
guess. Who would want to? Here, look at the
edge of this table -  even this cheap, commercial
stuff has some beautiful edges. All the rest comes
down to money. Running a joint like this, how
much do you think you'd want to spend on tables
and chairs? That's all initial cost, so you figure it
out when you start up. Replacement costs too.
You don't want too many drunks busting heads
on your tables and wrecking your chairs  -  or not,
anyway, unless they've maybe already consumed
sixty bucks worth of your booze. Right?
-
Some time back, the bikers used to come in here,
all staggering stupid and most already drunk. Whenever
that happened - every Friday and Saturday night, to be
sure  -  you'd get some walloping fool out for revenge
or picking a fight over something. That was that  -
bottles and knives soon were all the rage, and this
place emptied out like a gorilla came into the zoo.
-
I never figured it up, the damage they'd done; but
time after time it must have added up. Now most of those
guys are just stupid old fools, trying and trying to do the
same things, but failing miserably, like everything else,
over and over again. It's got to be pretty bad when you
can't even lift a bottle to crack someone's head.
