5325. THE IDEA THAT ATONEMENT CHANGES

THE IDEA THAT
ATONEMENT CHANGES
'I hear the lake water lapping with low
sounds by the shore.' No one before
Kierkegaard thought that : and what
was meant, and what does atonement,
anyway, change? The atoner, perhaps,
but certainly not the thing being atoned
for. HiroshimA. Nagasaki. Ankor Wat.
My loving elephant heart, and that with
all its memory, does not know where to beat.
