5321. HADRAIN

HADRIAN
Even the farm held an apple  -  which doesn't seem like
much, but was. Memoirs of Hadrian notwihtstanding, all
that was given over was the small talk of easy men. Roman
legions around falling walls, porous borders and barbarian calls.
'You know the word 'barbarian' was thought to mean simply
'neighbor', at first; someone from somewhere else. Only later
was it found to be the sound of their foreign tongue,
the 'yawp' that Romans couldn't understand.'
