4. FRENCH FOR SPECTACLE
I understand the clouds that cover thine
eyes - thou mayest see but not be seen,
as we can be seen but never see. And
what am I without Thee, but an unseeing
guide to mine own downfall. And what am
I at best, a suckling infant blind to the fault yet
searching with hands and mouth for succor. Yea,
let the strong and the mighty laugh at me while
my weak and needy soul - like so many millions
of others - shall ever confess to Thee.
-
And now I am knowing only that you knowest.
I watch the parade of white buildings fade. I rue
the Rue - this or that Parisian street - Rue St.
Sulpice, Rue de Dragon, Rue de Baume.
Tu scis. Thous knowest.
