It's going around; they breed fevers
now like blisters in a stoneyard and
people are falling in droves. Bad water?
Something else? 'For so many years
now we have lived in healthful peace,

infections. Now, again, but this should
not be happening here. We are a finer
country than that.' Everyone seems off.

Puzzled is not the word. The restlessness
of new virus and fever is always invisible.
In sneaks in through conscious pores, and
takes your breath away : fever, soreness,
boils, blisters, and - the final indignity -
your own loss of control.
