4458. WHO GOES WHERE, IN THIS GOD AND MAMMON WORLD?

WHO GOES WHERE, IN THIS
GOD AND MAMMON WORLD?

There is a steel chromium push to everything
underway : far beneath the ground, the subways
are rumbling where the feral cats hide out. I watched
a woman, with her bags and rags, sneak through what
was nothing more than a porthole-sized opening at the
edge of the wall - 'I watch cats do this, and I found a
place to stay just by following them.' She
made mention
when she saw me. My heart right then was about as
wide and open as a ten-lane expressway - I wanted
and wished to give her everything I could. But, it was
over that quick - and, just as well, for I really had nothing
to give and probably, realistically, wouldn't if I did?
