VITUPERATIVE DON'T BE
OK for the life of me, the lions are
in the den. We eat a pizza on the
side. The building and the table
are both in deep shade, as others
come and go around us. Those
lions? They're wall decorations
in this crummy Italian joint.

What's to be done about any of that?
Not much : eat your garden salad and
crank up the pizza pie as the girl comes
by to refill our cups. She's only about
five feet high, but cute as a bell, in
an Eye-talian way.

At the other tables others sit and dine
as well; the little talk of this and that
fills the room. With a swell how-do-
you-do, the take-out people enter and
walk back out with their orders.

Endless possibilities within that order:
sandwiches and eggplant and manicotti
too. We don't waste a moment dwelling
on any of that. Eat up, eat up, and don't
forget your hat when we finally get up
to leave.
