THE ALDERMAN WAS A
CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTOR
He knew neither how nor why. Even his
election surprised him, and the fact that
he had nothing to say did so too. I sat back
and chuckled at the meeting, knowing he'd
worked so hard to reach the position he now
had, but with absolutely no formulation of
what to do with it now. Isn't that often the
way : a conscientious objection to the
rules of the day.

The gavel went down, bang-boom.
A new silence filled the room.
