WHAT A GREAT WASTE
THIS ENDING IS
In this pallor, so great the whiteness
but nearing the end. Someone puts
suspenders on, while others watch.
The cavern door is opened and the
two-car garage beckons deeply :
'Out, out, out; leave and go,' it
seems to say. I am silent yet.
-
Then a phone will ring, and then
another too - (stage directions
here get garbled) - whoever does
answer says something strange.
'He's not here, he's just left but
he hasn't arrived yet.'
-
Like a Spring robin a'twitter
beneath a still bare tree, I watch,
as my silence turns to something
else, some other, newer sound.
What a great waste this ending is.
