SOLDIER'S MONUMENT
There's one at this corner - an old
guy holding a rifle - Civil War, or
maybe Spanish-American, or Mexican.
We have so many : little clumps of
time demanding to be remembered.
Like the dead, who pension stops
at death, but leaves no hole until
the widow too is gone. I never
know exactly why that is so.
Mostly they were unmarried
men at their time of service.
