GRAND WALL OASIS
No marker, nothing else - the two trees at the
water's edge are falling in. Raritan. Rar-i-tan.
The name of a river running twisted : not like
Hudson or East, this one stays to itself and ambles,
New Jersey satisfied instead. There, right there, that's
the native Ko-Haiyu (round, laughing water) who lived
on these banks for ten years straight, never leaving but
for high water. Those other who passed in their bark canoes
all knew him - the laughing, crazy one alone. He grew
so old singing, and then his skin erupted and he died.
No marker ever marked his final spot.
