16,141. THERE ARE A LOT OF THINGS I LIKE

THERE ARE A LOT OF THINGS I LIKE
Rivers running backwards, and concepts in
reverse; words that drift to nowhere, and saints
who learn to curse  on their deathbeds of course,
in the presence of Christ the Almighty. What a
very strange world we've created. Concerts of
absolute music we must all live by.
-
You can see it most everywhere : down at the
corner liquor, lottery, and cigarettes/sundries
store. (Have you ever looked that one up?
Sundries? It means 'things too small and
miscellaneous to be mentioned'. Boy that's
a weird one. I wonder what sundried tomatoes
think of that?). Right here, now, on some
corner in old Port Jervis, some kids jump
out of a running car and  -  while the driver
waits  -  they're quickly back out, with a big
bag of chips (see the yellow boy smiling),
some cigarettes and blunts (hear the music
blaring inside each time the door is opened
again. A bag of something else too, probably
beer? No girls. Isn't that queer.
-
This is Port Jervis, at the corner, where the
park is (Stephen Crane Park), where he
interviewed Civil War soldier veterans,
of their experiences, as he was writing,
down the street in his brother's  house,
where he was staying, writing 'The Red
Badge Of Courage.' These old, upstate
towns got it all over on us.
