PLEASE DON'T MAKE
THIS GO AWAY
The cheap man in the Haddinger Tweed,
the one who oils his toes : yes, he came
once yesterday to bring me the news.
'We're baking clams down at the
car wash; won't you come along?'
-
I declined, thinking the moment too
fatuous and broad. Jigsaw puzzle
minds like that can never make
sense of reality; it's always one
more this or one more that.
-
We parted ways at the Clover Inn.
He drank his water, as I drank my gin.
