TO CIRCUMNAVIGATE
THIS GLOBE
To circumnavigate this globe,
Magellan, I believe I will sail
sideways over nothing, turning
due east at the edging and north
towards the sun. That's how I read
these maps; that's how it's done?

I know it's not new, but, still I
wonder : How did you get that done?
Blind passion or luck. Some weird
muttered prayers to a God in
declension? How nervous were
you? What was the tension?

A bunch of men slobbering on deck,
fearful and wailing? Or a bevy of old
salts so used to this sailing?
