Please don't be one of those with
the madrigals, the ones who say
they're troubadours at their work.
Singing with lutes and flutes.
Skip over the oarsmen and the
knaves, we've enough of those.
Very popular now are names
connected with a fetish or two :
Stiletta or Clamperina,
eye-popping stuff.

In the library book I was holding,
there was an outdated list. It was
so outdated - since the book was
thirty years old - that some of
the names may have been back in
fashion : stuff like Shane, even
Hondo. I thought libraries were
supposed to cleanse stuff like
this, to keep better current.

Nothing like working all the time
to bring a kid into the world, and
than naming him a wrong hunch,
from even another century.
