9005. THE ATTENDANT STORY

THE ATTENDANT STORY
This only means one thing, the 'story'
that goes with the situation. If it was
the 'attendant's story', there would have
to be that possessive. So, here we go:
It was e. e. cummings, from Patchin
Place, who once wrote this comedy line,
about Grand Street and Rivington
Street, on the lower east side. In the
little restaurant, the chef sticking his
head out of the kitchen entry, says to
a diner, of his acquaintance, 'Hey!
Bill, did you hear about the girl who
got raped on Rivington? She thought
it was Grand!' This was like 1924,
so imagine the funny laughter.
All the rest, I leave to you;
but the story's true.
