TO CHASTEN THE WILD HEART
Tastes like apple, or am I too opinionated?
Wasn't it C. S. Lewis who wrote : 'If the whole
universe has no meaning, we should never have
found out it has no meaning: just as, as if there
were no light in the universe and therefore no
creatures with eyes, we should never know it
was dark. Dark would be without meaning.'
I nod, as another part of me wants to say,
'we should never know it was dark, Alvin.'
(Alvin Dark managed in Major League
baseball, through the 60's-70's, after a
successful career with various teams).
