THE UNCANNY
I'm not one to be brave, or stupid -
though it could happen - the stupid.
I'm old enough for that: Babbling
incoherence in the 'forgivable'
hallways of older-age. "He's
almost funny," they'd say, "if
he wasn't so incoherent."
-
But then again, I can light the
flame by just looking at the match,
though it little matters now - the
fire being already out of control.
-
In 'Das Unheimliche' Freud stated
the uncanny as 'That class of the
terrifying which leads back to
something long known to us,
once very familiar.' Like life?
-
Maybe that's the thread I've lost -
the weaving through the situations
of the lines of continuity which make
most things have sense: Like a crazy
quilter's quarter-horse, repeated
ad nauseum on an otherwise
pedestrian coverlet?
