TALENT SCOUT
'Who cares these roarers, boatswain,
for the name of the King?' - That's
from Shakespeare, at the opening of
The Tempest. And I never shied from
speaking such sentiments.
-
In 6th grade, some 'musical' talent
scout said I'd be 'best on drums.'
He meant, like, if I was going to
take up an instrument, make it be
drums. I don't know what he meant,
the ass, after 5 years of piano already.
-
Who cares these roarers, thought I
then. Even though I'd never heard
the words nor read The Tempest.
It didn't matter - flipping baseball
cards against the school-yard wall
would have to do.
-
Watch out for the man with the
drumsticks? He's always a failed
something.
