BRING THE BOOTS
The mud is deep and the land is
soggy; never let go of my hand.
The blood-wrapped soldiers you'll
be seeing can't talk. Their tongues
have been cut by Chinese kinsmen.
Yangtze means Yellow, you know.
They call this the Yellow River, but
still say 'Yangtze Valley.' That's
odd, because they also say the
'Yellow River Basin' - things I
can never much fathom. Anyhow,
you think this is bad now? They
used to bring female babies here,
and smash their heads against the
rocks. No one wanted a daughter.
