A LITERAL DOMINANCE
ISN'T ALWAYS TRUE
It seemed like you were always gone when I
arrived. The world too was resting downward,
in the same way, as if after still another war as
the smoke was clearing. The bombed out striations
of the ruined cathedrals and banks. The Americans
again, coming by to inspect what they'd ruined.
It wasn't always them, and it could have been
anyone, really: the niggardly Russians, the bossy
Chinese or Serbs, found equally 'geizig'.

Things fall by the wayside in this way, and they
become history : Treasured voices relating experiences,
spoken slowly, aloud, into long, black tubes.
