13,877. HAVING TASTED OF THE RHINE

HAVING TASTED
OF THE RHINE
I read the book by Peter Hook
about the re-routing of the Rhine.
It was a long time ago - when that
was done  -  but in order to facilitate
river traffic, the usual culprits, back
then in their ermine robes and
kingly attire  -  dared to aspire to
finds better means of lucre. And
why should they have to wait?
-
Nearly two centuries on now, what's
left of this Earth and what have we
done? The selection of bathroom
tissue, one grants, is astounding, and
the delivery routes are efficient and
it all gets here well.
-
But we're dead ourselves even as
shelves are bulging with the bending
swell of endless objects of a Devil's
inducement. Your blemish creams
and mechanical means of enhancing
all sagging things are with you to
the ends of days. Yes, the Rhine
is straight, though we are here too
late. The overtime clock runs on.
