13,861. SOME STRIKEOUTS ARE BIGGER THAN OTHERS

SOME STRIKEOUTS ARE
BIGGER THAN OTHERS
Collecting all my errors in a
playbook by the side, the dugout
wall looms larger here than life.
Strategies, like double-plays, are
mostly accidental and can't really
be prepared; though it's really just
the idea that counts for most. That
baserunner on the field? Last year
he was a cripple, now he's as fleet
as a race-boat lapping the water.
-
Maybe it's fidelity that's best  -
hanging close to something you
thought off; penciling in a batter
at the very last moment, or even
changing the pitcher at the edge
of disaster's cliff.
