I FORGOT YOU, BLASTED.
Nearing Katterskill Falls, I was thinking
to jump. Even though I hadn't brought a
suitcase - but that's one of the things
jumpers don't do, right? Leaving a note
on the mantle at home, they don't then go
and pack. Crazy. When I was a kid, my
mother was always putting my sister in
a jumper. Never got that one straight.
When John Berryman, the writer, jumped
off the Washington Avenue Bridge,
between Minneapolis and St. Paul,
he waved at the city all the way.
