9102. OTHER WORLDS

OTHER WORLDS
'You had to be fancy,' my
Mother said. Things now
change so fast. In ways
neither she  -  nor my father -
would have a grasp of today,
if they were here, at all. 'Today
at work I surfed the Web,' that
other guy said, 'one second I
was in the Met, and in another
I was Mesopotamia.' I kind of
knew what he meant  -  there
now was another world,
accessible and scattered, and
woven through  -  now  -  our
present tribal landscape. As if
our lonely primitive brains had
finally demanded, once more,
some campfire company,
and gotten it.
