288. AT THE ART STUDENTS LEAGUE

AT THE ART STUDENTS LEAGUE
(3/21/09)

First of Spring on 57th Street.
Fire trucks feed the swell - all noise
and rumble and I am driven to tears.
Rizzoli's - just down the street - covers its
books from water in fear while those firetrucks
lurk in the street. I am dazzled by the lights.
-
At the Art Students League, I am watching the
girls as they pass through the stairs. I am noticing the
reds and the blues - in the curtains and in their
eyes. Color is the pane of glass I'm looking through.
If art can be taught, then - really - it ought.
-
Those firetrucks do what they do.
