CALIBRATED RESISTANCE
Too much timing is a deadening
thing, but when Brooklyn calls
you can't refuse: The measure
is always in the braking. Down
below the platform the lady
had fallen and lost her shoes.
-
I'd only seen that before in
accidents of higher impact -
how the victim's shoes were
always left behind, flying
off in an instant and landing
by the curb or in the bushes.
-
What do we make of that? How
momentum propels forward yet
the body leans resistance back
as even the instant fails? In a
scant propulsion forward, so
much can happen.
-
This remains a mystery to me,
how the body escapes its shoes.
