13,595. THE EXPENDABLE FORTRESS

THE EXPENDABLE FORTRESS
Like iron, like steel, they all take
your heart away to a harder lock
then hands can break. Soda bottles
scattered along curbs and grates.
-
Money-matters, a table filled with
goods, some Nigerian 6-footer now
hawking shawls and scarves? The
over-tick of season when the weather
misbehaves. More maddening than
the hordes that mingle.
-
This city is a dumb-bell. Every
street a catch-all for debris : the
scattering clouds of remnants, free,
and unlocked for their running; be
sure now of your purse and baggage.
-
Gunshots ring out. To whose advantage
is something like that  -  another weird
occurrence, another local spat?
