13,593. AT THE HIGHTOWERS

AT THE HIGHTOWERS
Where I went I was not. It
so seemed. If absence makes
the heart grow fonder, what
does nonsense do? I stand
out, admiring the world
around me.
-
I was born on the last day
of a leap year that couldn't
get itself off the ground. Well,
ok, that's completely incorrect.
In fact, I made it up. Sorry.
-
Whoever was the first person
to taste many of the things we
now take for granted, that is the
person I admire most, and by
of whom most of my thought
is possessed. The guy who ate
that first tomato? Or the orange?
-
What did they do, the others, in
that unknown period  -  just
wait around for him or her
to prosper? Or die? 'Much
too soon to say, let's wait.'
On that leap of faith, I say,
much of our world hinged.
