I'VE BEEN ME
SINCE I STARTED
Icicle glands and serving-tray blues, walking
11th street and watching the cats. The ripped
open fence at the schoolyard corner, and all
those kids with their Spanish yelling. Now's
not the time to stop, now's not the time to
stop, I've been me since the very beginning.
The blue-candle Polish ladies along St. Mark's,
they're getting their food blessed again : they
walk in with trays, the fond priest at the front
does his things things to them then. They all
walk away satisfied. A few weeks later, they
do the same thing again, this time with pets.
So many things I'll never understand. I've
been me since I first entered this land.
