MAKESHIFT RECOMPENSE
Of a hundred and ten things I have to do,
the usual steps of cleaning and washing are
there : today, in anticipation of a car-sale
pickup, I had to change a tire. Fun and different
that. Throw it in the back of my truck, run it
out to Pine Top for their 'free' air, inflate and
put it back on. Just so some guy on Wednesday
can come here, pay me, throw his dealer plates
on it, and drive it back, to Newark. His risk -
no longer mine. He pays. It goes. I stays.
