46. A REQUEST FOR THOMAS

A REQUEST FOR THOMAS
Show me that man who can whistle the wind -
the one with the stallions and steeds;
that guy, high on the hill, looking down
from a lofty place and seeing movement
and motion, that wind in the reeds.
Make it simple and true : magnanimous and grand.
After I have seen him, perhaps then I'll cede the point:
I've been wrong forever, on so many things;
wrong forever in all of my deeds.
I'll need more than a declarative sentence -
music and a lilting tune, a melody; some kind
of song wherein I can remember the words.
Bring me that message. Let it be heard.
